We are Gary and Peggy Park, owners of Big Basin Dog Training.  Our love of dogs got us started in dog training in the 70’s and we have been actively involved in dogs and dog training ever since!

We have a wide variety of dog training experience which includes:

• AKC Obedience
• Search & Rescue
• Police K-9s
• Schutzhund

Much of this experience is at competition-quality levels.

This wide range of experience enables us to provide quality basic training for your family pet as well as advanced, competition-quality obedience, tracking and protection for those seeking higher levels of training.

Our mission is to create well trained, happy dogs who are a joy to live with and love.

Our Story

About the experience of Gary and Peggy Park, owners of Big Basin Dog Training and Boarding

Gary and Peggy Park have been assisting people with their dogs for over a combined 75 years.  They have experience!  Their experience includes obedience, problem solving, police training, search and rescue, and some personal protection.

Their background comes from competitive dog sports, primarily IGP (International Working Dog test competition), originating as a temperament test for breeding involving tracking, obedience and protection.

Peggy has competed nationally and is a former regional champion and recipient of the USCA Gold Medal award among other trophies (see photo).  She was also the Regional Director for eight years when the region was the most successful one.

Gary has competed nationally and is also a former regional champion and USCA Gold Medal recipient (as well as other awards and trophies, see photo).  He is also a recognized teacher of the “Bad Guys,” the helpers who train and test the dogs in protection competitions for the judge.  Gary has a prestigious career, having been selected to be a helper at five regional and 13 national events.  Through this program, he has mentored many successful trainers and helpers.

Peggy and Gary have assisted in training dogs that have won national and world titles.

From this background, we can use our experience in helping with people’s pets.  Using a balanced and common sense approach that has proven results, their goal is to help you have a well-balanced and happy dog around the house and in public.
